The Special Telecommunications Service (STS) is a branch in the Romanian telecommunications, being a central specialized structure which organizes and coordinates the activities in the government telecommunications field for public authorities and supports all non governmental structures of governmental and public interest. Although STS manages, operates and develops the Communications and Information Technology services, with points of presence at nation wide level, the strong point for this project proposal is that STS provides the cooperation among state institutions, especially among the law enforcement and response to emergency or special situations. Thereby, STS harmonizes and ensures the compatibility of their communication systems.
The institution is ready to provide both landline and mobile integrated ICT services at any time to quickly answer in a professional manner to all the assumed engagements and to offer a good expertise in its field of competence, based on its own efforts (having a large independence from the public ICT operators), technical means and state of the art solutions developed in house. Moreover, STS administrates the Single National Emergency Call System (SNECS). The SNECS is an operative and integrated IT&C system, designed to notify, receive, process and transfer the emergency calls to the requested services, in a centralized and unitary way, with the same 112 application and GIS system at all PSAPs.
