Laboratorio di Scienze della Cittadinanza - LSC (Laboratory of Citizenship Sciences) is a Private Research Institute based in Rome (Italy), founded in 1993. LSC is a group of researchers - mostly sociologists - involved in a interdisciplinary research programme focused on the radical changes affecting the models of governance in contemporary societies, in which knowledge is a strategic factor of growth and development and where new forms of human agency and subjectivity are emerging, also thanks to the deployment of ICTs and of the Internet.
LSC research activities are based on a sociological approach aimed at investigating on the social phenomena emerging in the interaction amongst science and technology and society (here it is crucial the role of social actors). In this framework, LSC is engaged in promoting a strong role of sociology within technology-driven research areas, also in the framework of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI). While in the past LSC has worked in many different research areas such as quality of healthcare, skilled migration, training of human resources, poverty and social exclusion, etc. in the last 10 years LSC focused its research activity around the study of the interactions amongst scientific and technological research/innovation and society/social actors/human factor.
